  • September 7, 2017 - Nut Grower Calendar Updates
    The Society of Ontario Nut Growers (SONG) will hold its fall meeting on Saturday, September 16. It is the beginning of the chestnut season and there are numerous chestnut festivals planned. One of them is in Ithaca, New York and the other is in West Virginia (not too far out of Ohio). If you know of a chestnut festival in your "neck of the woods", please let us know.
    Fall is also a time of harvest. Join Lee Reich in Ithaca, NY for a workshop on growing delicious fruits (including pawpaw and persimmon) naturally. You will also be treated to a tasting. Visit the calendar for details.

    This month's article is "Black and Burgundy Truffles as Agroforestry Crops on the Roots of Hazel and Oak Trees" by Gretchen Pruett and Johnn Bruhn. Division of Plant Sciences, University of Missouri, Columbia
    Truffles are a valuable additional crop that can be harvested by nut growers.

    The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) Annual Meeting will be held October 6. This meeting is open to the public. Visit the calendar for details.
     
  • August 7, 2017 - Feature Article of the Month
    This month's article was "Promising Pawpaw" by Zhen Cai and Michael Gold of the Center for Agroforestry at the University of Missouri, a leader in pawpaw research. This article discusses the pawpaw's potential for becoming a high value niche crop.
     
  • August 6, 2017 - Stakeholders' Report added
    Click HERE to access the 2016 Stakeholders' Report and prior reports. The Stakeholders' Report includes the Treasurer's Report and the President's Report which addresses the state of NNGA and plans for the future.

    We have added 2 new hats and one new T-shirt to the nut grower apparel page. One hat is a vintage ball cap and the other new hat is a very attractive olive green outback hat.
